Smith began playing golf as a two-year-old at Wantima Country Club, a modest golf course in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. His father, Des, worked as a printer and was the club captain. Sharon, Smith’s mother, worked at the local department store. Mel Smith is Smith’s sister.

Five years later, in 2009, Cameron Smith won the Handa Junior Masters, a now-defunct junior golf competition in Australia. In 2011, he added three more junior championships to his long list of wins by winning the Australian Boys’ Amateur, Australian Amateur Stroke Play, and Victorian Junior Masters.
Professional
Cameron Smith played on the PGA Tour of Australasia after declaring himself to be a professional in 2013.
