Debbie and Blaine Morikawa gave birth to Morikawa on February 6, 1997, in Los Angeles, California. In terms of education, he attended La Canada High School in California. He then attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he played college golf. He was a five-time Pac-12 champion during his time there.


He won the Western Junior, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Sunnehanna Amateur, and Northeast Amateur during his amateur career. He spent three weeks at the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking due to his consistent play. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2019.




Morikawa made his professional debut at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open, where he tied for 14th place, in 2019. He turned pro in 2019. He tied for fourth at the John Deere Classic, and as a result of that performance, he was awarded a 2019–20 PGA Tour membership.

 He competed in his first PGA Tour event two weeks later and defeated Troy Merritt by three points to win.

A month later, he won the 2020 PGA Championship, his only major championship appearance. With that victory, he became the third-youngest golfer in history to win the PGA Championship, which he did at the age of 23.

Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open on July 12 by defeating Justin Thomas in a playoff for his second PGA Tour victory. It was his first PGA Tour victory that wasn’t an alternate. In the third playoff hole, Morikawa prevailed with a par after coming back from a three-shot deficit with three holes left. Morikawa had to make a 25-foot birdie putt to stay in the game on the first playoff hole.


Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship on August 9, his first major championship victory. His final-round score of 64 tied Steve Elkington in the 1995 PGA Championship for the lowest final-round score shot by a PGA Champion. 


Morikawa became the third-youngest golfer to win the PGA Championship when he won at the age of 23. Morikawa was also the fourth golfer in history to win the PGA Championship before the age of 24.


Collin Morikawa won the 2021 WGC-Workday Championship on February 28 at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. Morikawa defeated Billy Horschel, Viktor Hovland, and Brooks Koepka by three strokes.

Morikawa triumphed over the competition on July 18 at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Kent, England. Jordan Spieth was defeated by Morikawa by two shots. He became the first player to win two majors in eight or fewer starts since Bobby Jones in 1926.


 In his first appearance, he also made history by becoming the first player to win two different majors.


In a tie for third place at the 2020 Olympic Games, Collin Morikawa placed. In a seven-man playoff for the bronze medal, he came in last.


Morikawa represented the United States in the 2021 Ryder Cup, which was held in September 2021 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. Morikawa went 3-0-1, including a tie in his Sunday singles match against Viktor Hovland, as the US team won 19-9.
